A crankshaft’s main journal serves as its center of rotation. One of our specialties is grinding, machining, and polishing of crankshaft main journals. We promise that our repairs will meet OEM tolerance and surface finish requirements. The actual space inside the engine that can be used to mount our equipment is the sole restriction on the diameter that can be accommodated. The crankshaft must be spun to accomplish this type of activity. Usually, we use the engine barring gear to do this. This kind of work typically takes place on main engines due to the limited access to smaller engines. B&W, MAN, Mirrlees, Pielstick, Sulzer, and Wartsila are frequently used.

Our highly sᴋɪʟʟed professionals travel the world from our UK headquarters, performing precise on-site repairs to large diesel engine crankshafts and crankpins. Our professionals will come to you with our innovative, portable equipment to quickly get your engine going. We have 70 years of in-situ experience and are the top crankshaft repair specialists in the UK.

Nicol & Andrew was the first business of its kind to perform in-situ machining and repairs on marine propulsion units when it was established in 1952. We created the equipment to complete the work on-site. The repair of crankshafts, while they were still installed in the engine, was revolutionized by our proprietary Orbitool technology. There is no need to remove or rotate the crankshaft because our Orbitool system revolves around the broken crankpin. The reduction of downtime clients experience due to crankshaft problems is a significant advantage. In many instances, a repair can be finished in just two or three days.

We have a wide variety of specialized tooling that can fit practically any engine type. Small generator crankshafts all the way up to the larger main engine kinds are accounted for in terms of size. We cover conventional journal sizes up to and including 1000mm if required.
